Recycling

Why should we recycle?

Recycling can now prove to be both ecomically and environmentally a better option than the traditional disposal route. Landfill tax is increasing by £3 per ton per year and currently stands at £21 per ton, this is on top of any gate fees that the landfill operators charge.

Recycling is a series of activities that includes collecting recyclable materials that would otherwise be considered waste, sorting and processing recyclables into raw materials such as fibres, and manufacturing raw materials into new products. Collecting and processing secondary materials, manufacturing recycled-content products, and then purchasing recycled products closes the loop and ensures the overall success and value of recycling.

Nowadays, it is possible to buy a wide range of good quality products made from recycled material, usually with no difference in quality, and at similar or even cheaper prices than virgin products.

Materials Recycling Facility

Our Materials Recycling Facility is a 15,000 square foot building where recyclable materials are sorted according to type, and compacted into rectangular bales. The bales are then shipped - via truck - to end users and manufactured into new products.

The MRF is designed to process up to 160 tons per day, and has the flexibility to phase-in additional recyclable items as market outlets become available.

The MRF plays an integral part in Anglia Recycling’s Integrated Waste Stategy, as it enables us to divert large quantities of waste away from landfill.

The combination of manual labour and modern technology has resulted in us utilising this material, by producing a clean segragated product - suitable as an alternative to valuable raw materials or as a complementary additive in further manufacturing processes.
